Explosion proof cranes

In addition to climate, cranes are used in different technological environments. For example, explosion-proof cranes are used in explosive environments, where they operate perfectly in harsh conditions

Explosion-proof cranes are designed for operation in the following environments: zone class V1a, V1, V1g, V1b; with explosive mixture group T1 - T5, and explosive mixture category IIA, IIB, IIC. Only high-quality electric hoists are used for explosion-proof cranes. These devices can operate under such conditions and will not fail at the most crucial moment. The operating temperature of this type of girder can be as low as -40°C

Using frequency control of all or any mechanisms of the explosion-proof crane, the speeds can be adjusted smoothly. In addition, a capacity limiter and an axle brake can be installed on this type of cranes️

Cranes designed for use in non-standard areas must agree with the Requirements for Electrical Installation

Explosion-proof cranes and hoists are used as lifting devices with electrical equipment, which is explosion-protected and eliminates the possibility of sparks during operation. In addition, the heating temperature of the entire outer plane does not go beyond the permissible range. Thus, neither the auto-ignition temperature of explosive mixtures nor the smoldering temperature for smoldering dusts is reached

Electrical equipment must be selected according to the hazardous area classification. Spark-producing electronics must be moved outside such areas

The explosion protection of the crane includes the following:

▪️application of a flameproof layer

▪️application of an intrinsically safe circuit

▪️filling or blowing out the sheath under overpressure

▪️use of oil-filled units

▪️protection of electrical machines against overloads and high heating temperatures

▪️removal of sparking electrical equipment outside hazardous areas

▪️application of wires and cables with only copper conductors in a rubber oil-and-gas-resistant, flame-retardant sheath

▪️power supply by means of a flexible cable (no cable drums are allowed)

Mechanical components and units are designed to avoid sparks from possible friction and collisions. For this purpose, the most “working" objects are lined with various non-sparking materials such as: brass, rubber, wood, and the ropes are coated with special greases

Designing this kind of equipment must ensure the safest possible conditions for the operation of cranes mechanisms in non-standard versions

In addition, when designing a crane for special conditions: cold climates, seismically hazardous areas, fire- and explosion hazardous environments, the passport and manual for the crane must specify the zone class of operation

Overhead cranes are technically well equipped and also have low operating costs. On the other hand, explosion-proof cranes are slightly more expensive to maintain than general purpose cranes

The ergonomic design of the crane components allows a wider use of the production building’s work area
